Six Competencies that Power Growth Boards - Curiosity

Curiosity has become a vital leadership competency in an age of rapid change. Far from being passive, it fuels learning, innovation, and agility—enabling leaders to adapt and thrive in uncertain environments.

Curiosity

“Curiosity” is becoming one of the most critical competencies for businesses navigating rapid change - in technology, human behaviour, and geopolitics.

The growth curve for innovation and technology is steepening. Access to information through social media and AI is vast and quick to access. It is almost impossible to be ahead of everyone else and maintain the same gap for a sustained period – even for the most ambitious leaders out there.

The five features that stand out to us in the most effective leaders with strong curiosity:

It was once seen as a passive trait, even confused with procrastination - today, it's a core driver of performance and progress. Curiosity provides context for a better perspective, a healthy tolerance for ambiguity and values continuous learning

My big moment of enlightenment of “Curiosity” came from listening to Andrew Grill at a Vistage conference. Andrew hosts the podcast “Digitally Curious” and makes his point very emphatically – It is realistic for all of us to be curious about AI and technology, a lot more so than to aspire to being experts overnight. Those who are digitally curious will be open to innovation & creativity, learn continuously and be able to adapt with pace and agility.

How can businesses evaluate candidate CURIOSITY in their recruitment processes?

Curiosity is a mindset. It is only revealed in behaviours and buzzwords. No CV screening technology can assess curiosity (and I do not believe that there ever will be).
